28 Aug GolfPass Courses | August 2019 | LDW
Our team picks the top GolfPass courses to play each month within the GolfPass Network.
At first glance, New York City may not seem like a place that screams golf culture. After all, there’s all the hustle and bustle, lots and lots of concrete, thousands of towering skyscrapers, and millions of things to do. However, once you look past all of that (and venture a few miles outside the city), you will found hundreds of golf courses within reach. Not to mention, the most engaged and enthusiastic golfers in the United States. While courses come in all shapes and sizes, there are some that stand out from the others — even by New York standards.
Scroll down to discover the most exciting courses in the NYC area to tee it up at in August (all available on the GolfPass app). With Labor Day Weekend approaching we picked four of our favorite GolfPass partner courses to play, no matter where you’re celebrating.
The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge
LDW Locale: The Hudson Valley
This beautifully designed Jack Nicklaus signature course is situated in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. It is ideally located 1 hour north of NYC. For those spending their LDW on the Hudson River, it doesn’t get much better than this. The Golf Club at Mansion Ridge is carved out of the area’s natural tree line and wetlands – featuring bentgrass fairways, new and redesigned bunkers, and extremely elevated side greens. The golf is what you’re here for, but the sunset’s at Mansion Ridge alone are worth the greens fee.
Colonia Country Club
LDW Locale: The Jersey Shore
Fist pumping your way through summer’s final days? Quietly tucked away in central NJ, less than 45 minutes from The Jersey Shore, Colonia Country Club is for the golf purist. A private club and architectural masterpiece, the course focuses on minimalism and precision. It was built in 1898 by the designer of famed Medinah Country Club, Thomas Bendelow. A round at Colonia CC is golf at its absolute finest.
Engineers Country Club
LDW Locale: Out East-ish
Spending LDW on Long Island? While not “out-east” per se, Engineers Country Club is the perfect course for pre or post your Hamptons weekend. Home of the 1919 PGA Championship and 1920 U.S. Amateur, Engineers CC is an absolute gem. Merely 45 minutes by LIRR from NYC, Devereux Emmet architected a course that follows the layouts of some of Scotland’s most challenging holes. The key to success here is to master its pristine and undulating greens that Members urge resemble Augusta.
Great Bear Golf Club
LDW Locale: The Poconos
Mountains, lakes, or camping more your thing for LDW? The name here says it all. Great Bear Golf Club is a masterful Jack Nicklaus design. The course integrates lakes, several streams, wetlands, and small bridges throughout its rolling Poconos terrain. Its layout will challenge golfers of any skill set, while providing a world-class golf experience that only Jack Nicklaus can achieve.
